ALBERTA CROSS - BAND OF THE WEEK

Band Members
Petter Ericson Stakee - lead vocals, guitar
Terry Wolfers – bass, vocals
John Alexander Ericson – organ, keyboard, vocals
Sebastian Stone – drums

Looking slightly like Kings of Leon crossed with that nice man on the Quaker Oats packets, Alberta Cross have been feted by fancy music/style mag Clash and described in NME as ‘melancholic country folk… would have Neil Young in tears.’ Petter grew up travelling with his singer/songwriter father between Sweden and the UK, and met Terry in dubious smoky East End boozers. With their shared interest in music, the pair formed Alberta Cross, accompanied by Petter’s brother John and Sebastian. Catch them supporting the Earlies, Fields, Scott Matthews and Findlay Brown this spring

INFLUENCES
The Band, Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen; blues, soul and gospel

THEY SAY
“You do feel pressure to get a career started. That’s when your life is really going to begin”
- Terry Wolfers

”It’s a battle against weak verses and big choruses and we want to make classic albums, not albums with four singles and a bunch of fillers”
- Petter Ericson Stakee

WE SAY
Gentle folk rock with twanging yet soothing guitars and wounded, mildly Scandinavian vocals. Alt-rock with a bit of country thrown in. ‘Heart Breaks’ rolls along revelling in its sadness, while their album title track has a gin-soaked swagger about it

SAMPLE LYRICS
“Why do we always lose what we love?” – ‘Lucy Rider’
