The Native.tv website launched with a gig night at Portsmouth Guildhall on January 20th 07 where a handful of local bands played. I sent email questionnaires to the bands beforehand, and it only took them about three weeks to respond.

BEFORE WE LEFT
Tom Broad - bass/vocals
James Grinter - drums
Rich Sanders - vocals/guitar
How did you meet?
Tom: Me and Rich were friends from our first year of Cowplain Community School and in Year 10 we both got moved down a set in science where we met James who played drums and was a great bloke. It started there and a month later we played the Wedgewood Rooms and did three covers.
What's your favourite gig to date and why?
Tom: My favourite was the Battle of the Bands we played in the upstairs of the Victory Pub in Pompey. Me and Rich dressed in black with white ties and James wore white with a black tie. It was also the first time we let James have a mic to add backup vocals and it sounded great. Only two out of the four bands could win and we came second so we were happy. I just liked the confined space we had to play and the small 35 + crowd were all our mates and it was amazing.
How do you feel about playing the Guildhall?
Tom: It’s exciting to be playing there again nine months after we did in March ‘06. But this time we get a full set and more of our own people there to get involved.
What's your favourite track you play and why?
Tom: 'Fighting For Individuality' – I’m not too sure why, that track and 'Hope and Prosperity' came around at the same time and we always play them one after another. I guess it’s our most raw punk and fast song that I love the bass line to.
What bands have you been to see yourself this year?
Tom: Well I went to the Reading Festival so that was amazing. My music taste has changed in the last two years from just bands like Blink 182 and New Found Glory to British and more indie bands such as the Subways and the Libertines.
Any plans for 2007?
Tom: READING FESTIVAL!

JAIMISON
Dan: Joshua sings and plays guitar, I play guitar, Jesse plays bass and also sings, Billy plays piano and keys, while Owen likes to think he’s playing drums.
How did you meet?
Dan: I met Jesse when we were at a party and ended up playing Doubles Twister and were on the same team. Owen and Billy met me and Jesse at school and Joshua hooked up with us through various dating agencies.
What's your favourite gig to date and why?
Dan: Probably one we played in Hereford a while back. It’s always nice to do out of town gigs, because when you get people cheering or singing along, you know it’s not just because they are your friends.
How do you feel about playing the Guildhall?
Dan: It’s obviously a very exciting prospect. The size of the stage I can imagine would be daunting to some people, but we’re always up for a challenge and we’ll be breakdancing mid-set as usual, one suspects.
What's your favourite track you play and why?
Dan: How dare you make us choose between our children! I guess it’s different for all of us, the main thing is that we don’t write a song that we don’t like I guess! Ha ha!
What bands have you been to see yourself this year?
Dan: Bring Me The Horizon, Bella Kiss, Circle Of Dead Children, Techno C*nt, Kill The Arcade. Mostly obscure bands but we like to watch the little guys (in a completely non perverted way!)
Any plans for 2007?
Dan: Owen is going to New York in March to kick off a long-lasting acting career whilst Billy and myself shortly begin work with local youth centres trying to get kids off the street and onto playing Latin percussion. Jesse will be working full-time at Makro and Joshua is going to be taking part in a number of TV quiz shows.
…but on the other hand we might just try and play as many gigs as we can and try to build a solid fan base. We have an EP coming out around Easter time, so look out for that one. Oh and if we play on Later with Jools Holland within 2007, then we’ve DEFINITELY done well!

RUN RIVIERA
Dave Martin - Vocals/Guitar
Joe Trozsok - Drums
Stew Blackburn - Guitar/vocals
James Harding - Bass/vocals
How did you meet?
James: I met Joe and Stew about three years ago through friends. We decided we needed a new singer as things weren’t working with our ex-singer, and we could think of no-one better than Dave himself.
What's your favourite gig to date and why?
James: Playing or watching? Playing has to be a festival in Germany because it was our first ever outdoor gig and probably one of the biggest crowds. We sold many a CD. Watching has to be New Found Glory, both times I’ve seen them.
How do you feel about playing the Guildhall?
James: Looking forward to it! Because it’s our first gig as a new band and it’s in Portsmouth at a huge venue.
What's your favourite track you play and why?
James: Hard to say because our set is all brand new songs. Personally it’s a song called 'With All Respect', because it has offbeats!
What bands have you been to see yourself this year?
James: Too many to name! New Found Glory, the Early November, Panic! At The Disco etc…
Any plans for 2007?
James: Just enjoying ourselves in the band, making good songs and improving ourselves.

SHEILATAKEABOW
Oli Collins - Vocals & Guitar
Darryl Bishop - Bass
Tom Fellows - Drums
Rhys Davenport - Guitar
How did you meet?
Oli: We met at school, we were all in the same music class and realised we played different instruments. We started to jam together and thought it would be fun to start a band.
What's your favourite gig to date and why?
Oli: Supporting a Sex Pistols tribute band at Southampton Joiners. Good laugh seeing as we're not really punk!
How do you feel about playing the Guildhall?
Oli: We're really looking forward to it. It's the biggest venue in Portsmouth, and I don’t think we'll get the opportunity to play here for a long time. We're really grateful to Native for letting us on the bill and hope we can do our bit to put on a great show.
What's your favourite track you play and why?
Oli: Probably the latest one, ‘Hit the Lights’. It starts off really quiet and gradually gets louder and louder. The chord progression is really atmospheric too.
What bands have you been to see yourself this year?
Oli: Well, there've been loads. Darryl our bassist went to the Reading Festival this year, he really enjoyed it. A gig that we all went to was The Ordinary Boys at Portsmouth Guildhall. They were really good and had some great support acts to watch as well.
Any plans for 2007?
Oli: We're half way through recording our new EP at the moment, so we're aiming to finish that, and get some support slots for bigger bands.
